EURO FOOTBALL 77

This is my favourite Panini album ever produced mainly due to the fact that, to my knowledge, it is the only time that a sticker of my home town club, Ballymena United, was ever printed. It was the clubs first appearance in any European Competition after finishing runners-up in the National Cup the previous season to Linfield. (Aaargh!)

In my humble opinion this is also the best album of the 3 Euro sets, mainly due to the fact that the pages are organised into the 3 European Competitions of the season, instead of the previous two albums where the teams and their players were listed under their respective countries alphabetically.

Panini tried  their utmost to incorporate photographs of all the teams competing in each of the 3 European Competitions, but after studying I have noticed that their 'photographers' had failed to capture only three of the teams - not a bad effort. The teams missing are Pezoporikos (Cyprus), Kuopion Palloseura (Finland) and I.B.Vestmannaeyjar (Iceland) all from the U.E.F.A. Cup.

The set consisted of 400 stickers with most of the top European Club sides having their photographs made up of a 4 sticker combination in a quadrant format.

As stated above, I just had to post this photo of my hometown club on this page as it was Ballymena United first venture into Europe.

Incidentally they lost both the home and away legs of their tie against Beveren (Belguim) 3-0.

Anyone who is a avid fan of Man.Utd., like myself, may recognise Tom Sloan in the picture who played a few games for the first team in the early 1980's. Another famous player to come from the ranks of Ballymena United is the current Norwich City boss Nigel Worthington, although he was transferred before this season's picture.
